Navigating the limbus during specialty contact lens fittings, regardless of modality, poses inherent challenges. Complications at the limbus may lead to neovascularization, pannus formation, bullae, and, in extreme cases, limbal stem cell deficiency. This presentation aims to explore the existing literature, precisely defining the location of the limbus. Speakers will share strategies for managing the limbus, including tips for optimizing scleral lens fits with the innovative Europa Tangent and utilizing Euclid MAX™ Ortho-K lenses. Additionally, the presentation will showcase case examples highlighting distinctive features that contribute to maintaining optimal limbal health.

Friday

Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) data and Real-world results from the same treatment method do not always come out the same way.

Real-world studies reflect how average patients react to certain treatment in typical clinical settings, instead of controlled research studies that follow a standard set of recruitment criteria and procedure rules.

A double masked RCT is considered the most ideal study design to quantify treatment effects. It is a great way to generate data that can be compared to other studies which have similar study designs.

However, does the RCT data represent what you will see in your practice? When you need to treat a patient that is outside the age or prescription range of an RCT I/E criteria, can you expect your patient will benefit from the same magnitude of treatment effect that was reported from an RCT? What if your standard practice process deviates from the RCT study process?

The speaker will compare a commercially available multifocal contact lenses’ 1-yr RCT data on myopia management with real-world data coming from diverse clinical settings.
